It's good to hear in these days of bird and animal species on the decline,
that for the first time in 200 years a pair of ospreys has been breeding
in Kielder Forest in the North of England, close to Joe's old home.-
Beautiful birds, they are sometimes known as sea hawks and this
particular pair seem quite at home nesting on
a specially built platform erected by the Forestry Commission.Mum sits
on the nest while Dad supplies fish from the nearby resevoir.
last year this pair became famous when they raised three chicks
who fledged in the summer. They left for Africa to avoid the winter
and will probably return to breed when they are four years old.
Apparently the species became extinct in this particular area
in 1840, so the re-appearance is exciting news for the conservationists.

What is a fish without water? What is a bird without a tree to nest in?
What is an Endangered Species Act without any enforcement mechanism
to ensure their habitat is protected? It is nothing.
